GEOFF COISH
It was sad to hear of the passing of Geoff Coish.

Geoff was a huge part of Devon cricket and carried out many roles at Bovey Tracey CC, the Devon Cricket League and of course as scorer for the Devon Over 60s.

It was in 1993 that Geoff became secretary of Bovey Tracey Cricket  Club. Geoff was an excellent secretary, very committed and ensured the Club complied with the League rules and the requirements of the ECB. It was not long before the Devon Cricket League became aware of the good job he was doing for Bovey Tracey. When the post of Secretary became vacant in 2000, Geoff was asked to take it on. Being a part time post, Geoff combined it with his working role as a planner for a local heating & plumbing company. The League role was so many hours per week; however, Geoff committed many more hours than the League stipulated, and it became a labour of love for Geoff. Geoff continued as secretary of Bovey Tracey Cricket Club until 2010. He retired as DCL Secretary in 2013.

Geoff oversaw the project to refurbish the Bovey Tracey CC Pavilion in 2015.

Geoff spent the last few years of his life in a nursing home in Newton Abbot. His health was poor as was his mobility. He was admitted to hospital with pneumonia where he sadly died on Sunday 12th April. He was 84. Emma, his daughter told me that the day before he died, her and Geoff watched Bovey's match against Paignton on her iPad when she visited Geoff in hospital. How lovely that Geoff was still interested in cricket.

Details of his funeral will follow when confirmed.

VAUGHAN HOSKIN
Sad news that one of the early captains of Devon Seniors or Devon Over 50s as it was known then, Vaughan “Jocker” Hosking passed away at the weekend aged 85 at his home in Spain.

Having played under his captaincy at Torquay CC, Jocker was a fierce competitor on the pitch and charming off it, he definitely brought out the best in most players through his own tenacity and skill, bowling his little medium pace spinners and middle order batting his was a valuable member to have in your team. His bar room stories are also legendary, and all told with a cheeky grin.

One of the early captains of the Devon Seniors set up where he led Devon Over 50s between 1996 - 2001 along with buddies Terry Doyle & Barrie Matthews recruiting local players like Stuart Lott, Bob Eames, Tom Stanton and Chris Theedom into the Seniors fold, as we all know Chris went on to successfully captain the Seniors himself.

Vaughan always wanted to know how the Seniors were doing on his many trips back to the UK during the summer months and I’m sure there are many stories to tell in the future …. He was one of life’s good men.

DCSCC President Nigel Mountford said ….

'Very sad to hear of the passing of Vaughan 'Jocker' Hosking. When I joined Torquay CC in 1976, Vaughan was most welcoming to me and my Family. The eleven years that I was with Torquay CC, Vaughan became a good team mate and friend. He was very competitive and for me he was a great motivator, probably from his Rugby career. If it was a Saturday league match, a Sunday or mid-week friendly, Vaughan approached the match in the same way. RIP Vaughan and thank you for all the good times we spent together.'

From all at Devon County Seniors our thoughts go out to his wife Sandy and the close family.

Neil Matthews - Chair DCSCC
